DAFE Empowers ABE Students with Research and Immersion Workshop

The Department of Agricultural and Food Engineering (DAFE) recently hosted an event aimed at enhancing the research and professional skills of its students. The "Orientation and Workshop on the CvSU Research Agenda and Immersion Opportunities" held on April 29, 2024, at the Training Hall, Technology Demonstration Farm, aimed to align student research efforts with the university's strategic objectives.

The orientation program provided BS Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering (BSABE) students with valuable insights into the university's research priorities, ensuring their research projects are relevant and impactful. Through expert guidance and collaboration with faculty members and industry experts, students were equipped with the necessary tools and resources to excel in their academic and professional pursuits.

The event, organized by the department, featured presentations on the CvSU Research Agenda, highlighting the university’s research centers: National Coffee Research, Development, and Extension Center (NCRDEC); Bee Research, Innovation, Trade, and Extension (BRITE) Center; Makapuno Research and Development, Innovation and Resource Center (MRDRIC); Sugar Palm Research, Information, and Trade (SPRINT) Center; and Affiliated Renewable Energy Center (AREC).  DAFE faculty members also shared their accomplished and ongoing research projects and involvements. Additionally, students received guidance on developing thesis topics with intellectual property considerations in mind, and immersion opportunities for student involvement preparing them for successful careers in the Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering industry.

The program format included an open forum, breakout sessions, and a workshop designed to foster interactive learning and collaboration among participants.

By providing students with a platform to engage with experts and explore immersion opportunities, DAFE aims to cultivate a culture of excellence and innovation among its students. The event not only enhances students' research skills but also prepares them for future leadership roles in the Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering sector. (VVVergara)
