Students and graduates from the Department of Agricultural and Food Engineering (DAFE) at Cavite State University (CvSU) recently showcased their research excellence during the 2nd CEIT Research Colloquium 2024. The event, held on July 8, 2024, at the International Convention Center at CvSU, revolved around the theme "Navigating Change: Research in an Evolving World for Sustainable Development."
Mr. Jefrel de Bien emerged as a standout
participant, winning the best research paper award for his study titled
“Mapping of Potential Groundwater Recharge Areas in the Province of Cavite
Using Remote Sensing and GIS Technology.” His work, guided by adviser Engr.
Melrose M. Salona and technical critic Engr. Jose Carlo R. Dizon, garnered
significant recognition and a prize of seven thousand pesos.
Another notable presentation came from Ms.
Princess Mariel B. Medina, who showcased her research paper on “Design,
Fabrication, and Evaluation of Cooking-Mixer Machine for Kalamay Buna
Processing.” Her work demonstrated the practical application of engineering
principles in food processing technology.
Impressive
research posters from DAFE students and alumni were also presented. Ms. Keith
Cura and Mr. Jose Manuel Martillano presented their study on the “Development
of Mechanized Macapuno Scraper Machine,” highlighting advancements in
agricultural mechanization. Additionally, Ms. Jenalou Loyola and Mr. John Rebb
Gomez presented their research on “GIS Based Suitability and Soil Analyses of
Potential Dragon Fruit (Hylocereus spp.) Production Sites in Cavite,” focusing
on the integration of geographic information systems in agricultural planning.
The 2nd CEIT Research Colloquium 2024 provided
an excellent platform for DAFE students and graduates to exhibit their
innovative research projects. The success of these students not only reflects
their hard work and dedication but also highlights DAFE's role in nurturing
future leaders in agricultural and biosystems engineering. (VVVergara)
