Engr. Mendoza-Olpot Delivers Expertise in Agricultural Processing Lectures

Engr. Richelle Mae D. Mendoza-Olpot, DAFE faculty member, recently provided her expertise as a resource speaker for a series of lectures on Agricultural Processing. The event, aimed at empowering farmer leaders to become agricultural entrepreneurs through modern agri-fishery technologies, was held on June 18 and June 25, 2024, at Gourmet Farms Inc., Brgy. Buho, Silang, Cavite.

The training event was a collaborative effort between the Department of Agriculture - Agricultural Training Institute (DA-ATI) and Gourmet Farms Inc. It was specifically designed for 50 young farmers from across the country who are set to join the Filipino Young Farmers Internship Program in Taiwan (FYFIPT) Batch 4. This training served as a Pre-Departure Orientation Course, equipping the participants with essential knowledge and skills in preparation for their upcoming internship program in Taiwan.

Engr. Mendoza-Olpot delivered comprehensive lectures on key topics such as Food Process Engineering Concepts and Trends, Unit Operations in Food Processing, and Current Advanced Technologies in Unit Operations. Her presentations provided valuable insights into the latest advancements in agricultural processing, helping to prepare the young farmers for successful agricultural ventures.

The event's goal was to empower these young farmer leaders to leverage modern agricultural technologies, enhancing their productivity and entrepreneurial capabilities. Engr. Engr. Sierra Shares Expertise at Key Educational Events

Engr. Daniel G. Sierra, DAFE faculty member, recently lent his expertise as a resource speaker and panelist/evaluator in two significant academic events. His participation underscores the department’s commitment to advancing education and research in agriculture and technology.

On May 21, 2024, Engr. Sierra was invited by the Technological University of The Philippines - Cavite to serve as a resource speaker for their seminar titled "SEM1 – Seminar in Technology and Livelihood Education for Teachers." The event, themed “Smart Farming: The Future of Agriculture,” targeted BS Industrial Education students and was conducted via Google Meet. Engr. Sierra's presentation provided valuable insights into the integration of smart technologies in farming, emphasizing the transformative potential of these innovations for the future of agriculture.

On May 30, 2024, Engr. Sierra served as a panelist and evaluator at the 2024 CvSU Naic Student In-house Review. This event, held at the CvSU Naic Campus, was themed "Synergies of Innovation: Uniting Minds for Research Excellence." Engr. Sierra evaluated five student research presentations and five research posters, providing critical feedback and guidance to the participating students. His role was crucial in assessing the quality and impact of the student research projects, contributing to the enhancement of their academic and research skills.

DAFE Faculty and Students Enhance IP Competence in Training - Workshops

The Department of Agricultural and Food Engineering (DAFE) recently showcased its commitment to innovation and intellectual property (IP) management through active participation in a series of IP-related training workshops hosted by the University’s Intellectual Property and Technology Business Management Division (IPTBMD). These workshops, organized under the IP Unite 2024 and IP Expedite 2024 initiatives, aimed to enhance the IP skills of both students and faculty members, paving the way for effective commercialization of the university’s research and development (R&D) outputs.

From April 29 to May 2, 2024, the IP Unite 2024 workshop for students focused on patent search and drafting training. This initiative sought to equip student inventors with the skills to conduct thorough patent searches and draft precise patent specifications for their technologies. Among the participants from DAFE were Princess Mariel B. Medina, Kaye Andrei L. Tecson, and Naisy Ann M. Regla. Notably, Princess Mariel B. Medina was recognized for her exceptional work and was awarded the Best Patent Search Report.

Following this, from May 7 to 9, 2024, the IP Unite 2024 workshop for faculty members provided similar training aimed at strengthening the university’s IP management and commercialization functions. Engr. John Paulo M. Perido and Engr. Richelle Mae D. Mendoza-Olpot represented DAFE in this event. Engr. Perido distinguished himself by winning the award for Best Claim Draft, highlighting his expertise in patent drafting.

The culmination of these efforts was the IP Expedite 2024 training workshop, held from May 28 to 30, 2024. This advanced training focused on technology commercialization, providing selected graduates of IP Unite 2024 with practical skills and methodologies necessary to bring their R&D results to market. DAFE was well-represented by both students and faculty members, including Princess Mariel B. Medina, Kaye Andrei L. Tecson, and Naisy Ann M. Regla, as well as Engr. John Paulo M. Perido, Engr. Arnel R. Feraer, and Engr. Richelle Mae D. Mendoza-Olpot.
