The Department of Agricultural and Food Engineering (DAFE) recently showcased its commitment to innovation and intellectual property (IP) management through active participation in a series of IP-related training workshops hosted by the University’s Intellectual Property and Technology Business Management Division (IPTBMD). These workshops, organized under the IP Unite 2024 and IP Expedite 2024 initiatives, aimed to enhance the IP skills of both students and faculty members, paving the way for effective commercialization of the university’s research and development (R&D) outputs.
From April 29 to May 2, 2024, the IP Unite 2024 workshop for students focused on patent search and drafting training. This initiative sought to equip student inventors with the skills to conduct thorough patent searches and draft precise patent specifications for their technologies. Among the participants from DAFE were Princess Mariel B. Medina, Kaye Andrei L. Tecson, and Naisy Ann M. Regla. Notably, Princess Mariel B. Medina was recognized for her exceptional work and was awarded the Best Patent Search Report.
Following this, from May 7 to 9, 2024, the IP Unite 2024 workshop for faculty members provided similar training aimed at strengthening the university’s IP management and commercialization functions. Engr. John Paulo M. Perido and Engr. Richelle Mae D. Mendoza-Olpot represented DAFE in this event. Engr. Perido distinguished himself by winning the award for Best Claim Draft, highlighting his expertise in patent drafting.
The culmination of these efforts was the IP Expedite 2024 training workshop, held from May 28 to 30, 2024. This advanced training focused on technology commercialization, providing selected graduates of IP Unite 2024 with practical skills and methodologies necessary to bring their R&D results to market. DAFE was well-represented by both students and faculty members, including Princess Mariel B. Medina, Kaye Andrei L. Tecson, and Naisy Ann M. Regla, as well as Engr. John Paulo M. Perido, Engr. Arnel R. Feraer, and Engr. Richelle Mae D. Mendoza-Olpot.
The active participation and achievements of DAFE's faculty and students in these workshops highlight the department's ongoing commitment to innovation and excellence in intellectual property management. (VVVergara)
