DAFE shines at IEICES 2026

Congratulations to our very own Dr. Richelle Mae D. Mendoza-Olpot and Engr. Roland C. Aquino Jr. for proudly representing the Department of Agricultural and Food Engineering (DAFE) and Cavite State University at the 12th International Exchange and Innovation Conference on Engineering & Sciences (IEICES)! The prestigious event was held at Kyushu University in Fukuoka, Japan, last October 28–30, 2026.

Our faculty members showcased groundbreaking research on two vital Philippine crops, highlighting how local agricultural initiatives can drive global scientific innovation:

Dr. Mendoza-Olpot presented an optimized process for turning kaong (sugar palm) sap into granulated brown sugar. Her team's study, co-authored with DAFE alumna Cyrene R. Mojica and Jasmine Claire C. Pelle, revealed how harvest conditions, such as sap acidity and rainy weather, directly affect sugar quality and yield, opening new value-added opportunities for this local Cavite crop.

Engr. Aquino shared his master’s research on tackling postharvest losses in Philippine Red Onions. Co-authored with UPLB researchers, his study utilized portable near-infrared spectroscopy for a quick, non-destructive scan to predict microbial spoilage without cutting the bulbs, establishing a practical ambient storage limit of five to six weeks for the Red Pinoy variety.

DAFE is incredibly proud of your dedication to advancing agricultural engineering and for bringing CvSU's research excellence to the global academic community (SLdeLeon).
