During the “Paskuhan sa CvSU” celebration on 17 December 2009 at the University Quadrangle, Dr. Divinia C. Chavez, CvSU president, together with other administrators, faculty members, employees and students welcomed the 2009 CNN Hero of the Year, Mr. Efren G. Peñaflorida, Jr., who served as the guest speaker of this annual event. As every CvSUan know, Mr. Peñaflorida is a product of Cavite State University. He earned his degree of Bachelor in Secondary Education and graduated in 2006 in one of its branch campuses located in Cavite City.
It was short but a very remarkable day to CvSU. It also served as a homecoming for Mr. Peñaflorida. He was warmly appreciated by the CvSU family after he delivered his speech and presented some video footages of the recent “CNN Heroes: An All-Star Tribute” at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood. "Our planet is filled with heroes, young and old, rich and poor, man, woman of different colors, shapes and sizes. We are one great tapestry. Each person has a hidden hero within, you just have to look inside you and search it in your heart, and be the hero to the next one in need,” Mr. Peñaflorida said in his acceptance speech.
