Engr. Perido designated as Technical Expert for DA-BAFE

DAFE Research Coordinator and Faculty member, Engr. John Paulo M. Perido was nominated and invited by the Department of Agriculture - Bureau of Agricultural and Fisheries Engineering (DA-BAFE) as the designated technical expert for the assessment of the Composting Facility for Biodegradable Wastes (CFBW) under the DA Banner Programs (Organic Agriculture and High Value Crops) funded by the DA National Organic Agriculture Program (NOAP).

Engr. Perido conducted interviews and assessments in local government units (LGUs) and beneficiaries of the CFBWs in Leyte from October 2 - 6, and in Cebu from October 9 - 13. Along with Engr. Perido were Engr. Abigail R. Barredo, Engr. Madel E. Vidallon, and Engr. Analyn G. Sagana, DAFE alumnae and DA-BAFE employees.

The CFBW is one of the engineering interventions being promoted by the DA through the Bureau of Soils and Water Management (BSWM) and DA Regional Offices (RFO). The technology aims to provide means of converting agricultural and other biodegradable wastes into organic compost products that could be used by organic practitioners in the production of rice, corn, and high-value crops.

The results of the assessment of these CFBWs will serve as input in enhancing the planning, procurement, implementation, operation, and maintenance of the CFBWs.
