The Department of Agricultural and Food Engineering (DAFE), in partnership with the Philippine Society of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineers – Cavite Chapter (PSABE Cavite), successfully launched ABEN-Tech: An ABEN Technology Seminar Series, a webinar initiative designed to showcase various Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering (ABEN) technologies and educate the public on current trends and emerging innovations in the field.
The first episode, titled "Mapping the Future: GIS and Remote Sensing for Agriculture and Water Resources Management," featured two technical sessions:
• "Geographic Information System for Water-related Risk Assessment and Spatial Decision Support," presented by Engr. Jose Carlo R. Dizon, DAFE faculty member and PhD scholar; and
• "Geographic Information System for Environmental and Watershed Management," delivered by Engr. Shan Addeyson B. de Taza, Environmental Management Specialist at the National Irrigation Administration – Cavite-Batangas Irrigation Management Office.
The speakers emphasized the value of Geographic Information Systems
(GIS) not only as a visualization tool but also as a powerful platform for
spatial analysis, planning, and decision-making in agriculture and water
resources management.
The webinar was held on March 20, 2026, and was simultaneously
streamed via Zoom Video Conference and Facebook Live, allowing broader
participation from students, professionals, and stakeholders.
Following its successful launch, the ABEN-Tech webinar series is set
to continue with its second episode in April, further expanding discussions on
emerging technologies and their applications in Agricultural and Biosystems
Engineering (MSPerido).
