On March 25, 2026, the Department of Agricultural and Food Engineering (DAFE) conducted an Orientation and Workshop on the CvSU Research Agenda, Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in ABE Research, and BSABE Immersion Opportunities at the CEIT Conference Room, Cavite State University.
The program began with welcome remarks from the
Department Chairperson, Dr. Richelle D. Mendoza-Olpot, who emphasized the
importance of aligning student research with institutional priorities and
global development goals.
This was followed by a discussion on the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by Engr. Sheena Mae L. de Leon, who highlighted their relevance in guiding Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering research toward addressing real-world challenges and promoting sustainable development.
The session continued with the introduction of
the different CvSU research centers by Engr. John Paulo M. Perido and the
identification of existing research gaps where students may contribute through
innovative and solution-oriented research projects.
Moreover, DAFE faculty members shared their
respective research interests, ongoing studies, and previous student research
involvements. This segment aimed to inspire students in pursuing their
preferred fields of specialization while also helping them connect with
potential research mentors.
The discussion on BSABE Immersion Opportunities
was then presented by Engr. Melrose M. Salona-Perido, who introduced the
department’s previous Host Training Establishments (HTEs) and shared
documentation and experiences from past student internships.
In the afternoon, a write shop was conducted,
providing students with the opportunity to consult with faculty members
regarding their proposed research topics and to receive guidance in developing
their thesis capsule or proposal. The activity concluded with representatives
from each major ABE field presenting the outputs of their consultations and
discussions (MSPerido).
