New professional agricultural engineers

Cavite State University obtained a 50% passing rate in the Agricultural Engineer Licensure Examination given by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) on August 25-26, 2013. The new professional agricultural engineers are: Engrs. Mark Marcelino A. Delen, Jr., Deborah Anna T. Isaguirre, Charlon V. Matalog, Ronnie F. Mercado, and Aljon R. Penus.

A total of 237 out of 601 examinees passed the said examination given in Manila, Baguio, and Davao which corresponds to a national passing rate of 39.43%. (GMCastillo)

DAFE profs present RDE papers

Four faculty members of the Department of Agricultural and Food Engineering (DAFE) presented RDE papers during the Agency In-House Review of the Cavite State University (CvSU) on July 24 – 25, 2013 at the SM Rolle Hall, CvSU, Indang, Cavite. 

Dr. Ruel M. Mojica presented a paper “Empowering Small-Scale Coffee Farmers through Long-term Support from NCRDEC” during the In-House Review for Extension on July 24, 2013. He also presented a research paper “Technology Piloting and Commercialization of Microcontroller-based Coffee Roasting Machine” in the In-House Review for Research and Development on July 25, 2013. The two papers won second and first place best papers under extension and development category, respectively.

Dr. Leyma L. Cero presented her paper “Assessment of Water Supply and Demand of Cavite” during the In-House Review for Research and Development. Meanwhile, Drs. David L. Cero and Marilyn M. Escobar presented the progress report of “R&D Program for Small-Scale Integrated Coffee Processing System” and "Low Glycemic Sugar Production from Kaong (Arenga pinnata (Wurmb) Merr.)", respectively. (GMCastillo)

DAFE welcomes new members

Engrs. Diomel C. Gillesania and Jhunlyn J. Lorenzo

Engrs. Diomel C. Gillesania and Jhunlyn J. Lorenzo are the two new faculty members of the Department of Agricultural and Food Engineering (DAFE) this Academic Year 2013-2014. They teach mathematics subjects such as college algebra, plane and spherical trigonometry, and calculus.

Engr. Gillesania is a registered Electrical Engineer and worked as an engineering science instructor at the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila (PLM) from 2010 to 2013. He also tutors students from premier schools in Manila. Meanwhile, Engr. Lorenzo is a registered electronics engineer and a fresh graduate from this University. She was a consistent scholar and a mathematics quizzer during her college years. (GMCastillo)

New DAFE chair

Dr. Leyma L. Cero was designated chair of the Department of Agricultural and Food Engineering (DAFE) effective June 1 to December 31, 2013. Dr. Cero also held the same designation in June 2001 to May 2003 before she became the director for Planning of the University in 2003 to 2007. 

Dr. Cero holds a PhD degree in Agricultural Engineering and teaches major subjects in the AE and Environmental Science programs. She was awarded as the Most Outstanding Agricultural Engineer in Agricultural Engineering Education by the Philippine Society of Agricultural Engineers in 2012. (GMCastillo)

Cavite State University held its Recognition Program during the 107th University Foundation Day on February 7, 2013 at the University Quadrangle to honor its faculty and staff who rendered dedicated service to the University for many years. The service awardees from the College of Engineering and Information Technology are the following:

     2.    Jo-Anne C. Nuestro - 10 years
     3.    Roslyn P. Peña - 10 years
     4.    Marlon P. Pereña - 10 years
     5.    Aileen V. Rocillo - 15 years
     6.    Leyma L. Cero - 25 years
     7.    Emilio O. Ramos - 35 years
 

The celebration also included wreath laying at the monument of Don Severino de las Alas, ecumenical thanksgiving service, students' hours. and faculty and employees' Talentadong Guro at Empleyado.

This year's theme was "CvSU @ 107: A Celebration of Excellence Towards Global University 2020". (LLCero)

AE students rank third in PAEStigan III

Three senior agricultural engineering students from the Cavite State University (CvSU) ranked third place in PAEStigan III: The State Colleges and Universities National PAES Quiz Contest held at the Electrical Engineering Building, University of the Philippines Los Baños, College, Laguna on January 26, 2013. Reynaldo Villanueva Jr., Gee Jay Bartolome, Ronnie Mercado and Engr. Ervin Papa (coach) composed the CvSU team. They were awarded with trophy and cash prize amounting to PhP 20,000.00. 

Also, Gee Jay Bartolome topped the written examination and was awarded with  medal and PhP 1,000.00 cash prize.

However, participants from the Cagayan State University (CSU) and Central Luzon State University (CLSU) emerged as first and second place and were awarded with trophies and cash prizes amounting to PhP 50,000.00 and PhP 30,000.00, respectively.

Other participating SCUs include: Bataan Peninsula State University (BPSU), Benguet State University (BSU), Bulacan Agricultural State College (BASC), Camarines Norte State University (CNSU), Central Bicol State University of Agriculture (CBSUA), Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University (DMMMSU), Isabela State University (ISU), Mindanao State University – General Santos (MSU-GenSan), Nueva Vizcaya State University (NVSU), Pampanga Agricultural College (PAC), Romblon State University (RSU), University of Rizal System (URS), and University of Southern Mindanao (USM).
