PSAE-PPG holds local PAEStigan 2016 and other contests

Through the support of the Department of Agricultural and Food Engineering (DAFE), the Philippine Society of Agricultural Engineers Pre-Professional Group (PSAE-PPG CvSU) conducted the Annual Local PAEStigan and the first Engineering Math Quiz Contest on 27 October 2016 at the International House II, Cavite State University-Main Campus.

Melrose Salona, Jose Carlo Dizon, and John Mendoza will represent Cavite State University in PAEStigan VII: The Annual National PAES Quiz Contest in January 2017 at the University of the Philippines – Los Baños, Laguna. Dizon and Mendoza, fifth and fourth year BSAE students, respectively, topped the qualifying contest. Team captain Salona will represent CvSU for the second time. Meanwhile, Ms. Hana Pearl Descartin, a fifth year BSAE student, topped the Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) Parts Identification Contest and will advance to the national level as one of the arm competitions under PAEStigan VII.

PAEStigan is a national quiz contest covering the Philippine Agricultural Engineering Standards (PAES) and is a competition joined by all State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) in the Philippines offering the BS Agricultural Engineering / BS Agricultural and Bio-Systems Engineering program. Cavite State University placed 1st in PAEStigan VI and a consistent high placer since PAEStigan I.

Thirty one teams from different engineering programs joined the Math Quiz Contest, a new event under the Local PAEStigan 2016. Team Militia composed of Justin G. Primero, Kimberly Dennisse Calimlim, and Denise Mikaela San Diego (BSECE 3-1) placed first. Team Papo (Jobert Jan Pichuela, Syrille L. Alarcon, and Isaiah Christopher T. Martinez), and Team X (Patricia Grace Domingo, John Lhonard Valdez, and Gilbert Bueno) place second and third, respectively. Winners bagged cash prize and medals.

New professional agricultural engineers

Out of 1,002 aspiring agricultural engineering graduates across the nation, 396 (39.52%) of them passed the Agricultural Engineer Licensure Examination given by the Board of Agricultural Engineering in five testing sites, namely: Manila, Baguio, Cagayan de Oro, Legaspi and Davao on 16-17 August 2016. The members of the Board for Agricultural Engineering who gave the licensure examination are Engr. Ariodear C. Rico, chairman, and Engr. Juana T. Tapel, member. The results were released in two working days from the last day of examination.

Among these 396 passers, five of them are from Cavite State University. CvSU garnered a passing rate of 31.25% (5 out of 16 takers). Congratulations to the latest batch of CvSU Agricultural Engineers!

PSAE-PPG wins 3rd and 4th place in TALAMIKASAN

As part of the yearly Araw ng Kalikasan Celebration initiated by the College of Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources (CAFENR), the Philippine Society of Agricultural Engineers - Pre-professional Group (PSAE-PPG) CvSU Chapter joined the 9th Tagisan ng Kaalaman sa Kalikasan (TALAMIKASAN) Quiz Contest on 18 August 2016 to represent the College of Engineering and Information Technology (CEIT). Melrose Salona, Erjhon Dinglasan and Jayvee Subire composed Team A; Laumar Allan Dave Grafilo, Jose Carlo Dizon and Ahman John Pejana composed Team B.

Teams A and B placed third and fourth, respectively, among the 37 competing teams from different colleges and satellite campuses of the university. The teams from the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) and host college placed first and second, respectively.

New faculty members

The Department of Agricultural and Food Engineering welcomes three additional faculty members in the first semester of AY 2016-2017, namely: Mr. Arjay A. Arpia, Mr. John Paulo M. Perido and Engr. Daniel G. Sierra. The first two are fresh graduates of Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Engineering while Engr. Sierra is a registered professional agricultural engineer. Mr. Arpia handles mathematics subjects; Mr. Perido and Engr. Sierra are teaching mathematics and AE subjects.

Cero and Mojica receive awards

The College of Engineering and Information Technology (CEIT) headed by Dr. Rhodora V. Nuestro recognized the two professors from the Department of Agricultural and Food Engineering (DAFE) who have been outstanding in different categories during the 30th foundation day celebration of the college on February 16, 2016 at the CvSU Gymnasium.

Dr. Leyma L. Cero, DAFE chair has been awarded as the Teacher of the Year (CEIT Choice Award) while Dr. Ruel M. Mojica, National Coffee Research, Development and Extension Center (NCRDEC) director as Outstanding Alumnus of the college. The latter also served as the resource speaker of the event with the theme “CEIT@30: Going ASEAN, Going Global.”

Furthermore, the college also recognized academic scholars, contest winners, board passers, TESDA exam passers, outstanding students and organization, outstanding extensionist and outstanding staff during the celebration.

Drs. David L. Cero and Marilyn M. Escobar, professors from the Department of Agricultural and Food Engineering (DAFE), received their 30-year service award during the University Foundation Day celebration on February 15, 2016 at the CvSU Quadrangle. Drs. Cero and Escobar were accompanied by their respective families in receiving the award.

Dr. Cero, former director of the Physical Planning Services (PPS) is the current research coordinator of the College of Engineering and Information Technology (CEIT) while Dr. Escobar, previous Office of Student Affairs (OSA) and CEIT dean, is now the director of the Quality Assurance and Accreditation Center (QAAC) of the University.

CvSU wins in PAEStigan VI


Cavite State University (CvSU) emerged as the champion of the recently concluded PAEStigan VI: The State Colleges and Universities National PAES Quiz Contest held at the Electrical Engineering Auditorium, University of the Philippines Los Baños, Laguna on January 30, 2016. 

The CvSU team is composed of Mel Ehrenz M. Dela Rea, John Paulo M. Perido, Melrose M. Salona (all agricultural engineering students) and coach Engr. Kelvin Michael A. Crystal. The team received a trophy, medals, certificate, and cash prize amounting to PhP 50,000. They bested participants from 18 SUCs nationwide. 

PAEStigan is an annual national Philippine Agricultural Engineering Standards (PAES) quiz contest sponsored by the UP Society of Agricultural Engineering Students (UP SAGES).
