MBP passes CE licensure exam


Engr. Melmar B. Piedad, faculty member of the Department of Agricultural and Food Engineering (DAFE) passed the Civil Engineer Licensure Examination given by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) on December 6-7, 2014.
 
Engr. Piedad is a graduate of University of the Philippines – Diliman and currently teaches mathematics and engineering science subjects in the department.

CvSU pays tribute to the new Agriculturists and Agricultural Engineers

In coordination with the College of Agriculture, Forestry, Environment and Natural Resources (CAFENR) and the College of Engineering and Information Technology (CEIT), the University held a testimonial luncheon for Agriculturist and Agricultural Engineer Licensure Exams passers on August 19, 2014 at the S.M. Rolle Hall, Cavite State University (CvSU). The event aimed to give due acknowledgment and recognition to the performance and achievements of the graduates for both flagship programs of the university. CvSU obtained a passing rate of 51.28% for the 2014 Agriculturist Licensure Exam and 75.00% for the AE Licensure Exam over a national passing percentage of 36.00 and 75.00, respectively.

The event was attended by the board exam passers together with their parents, Dr. Divinia C. Chavez (CvSU President), Dr. Luzviminda Rodrin (VPEBA), Dr. Ma. Agnes P. Nuestro (VPAA), and faculty members of both colleges. Inspirational messages were delivered by the Vice Presidents and the President herself, who even shared her struggles and personal story during her time of taking her licensure exam. As Dr. Chavez said, “The University is hoping that this may serve as an inspiration and challenge to the members of CvSU family and to fellow students to strive harder in achieving a higher and better quality of education and learning.” Furthermore, Engr. Jonathan Flores, AE Licensure Exam topnotcher and his father Mr. Joselito Flores, also shared their inspirational stories and thanksgiving.

The testimonial luncheon was highlighted by the distribution of plaques of recognition for the exam passers and cheques for the topnotchers. A buffet lunch followed after. Unfortunately, Mr. Paul Ryan Alcantara, Agriculturist Licensure Exam 6th placer was not able to attend the event.

Meanwhile, the College of Engineering and Information Technology (CEIT) also held the same testimonial thanksgiving at the CEIT Conference Room on July 14, 2014. The event was initiated by the faculty of the college involving the 2014 licensure exam passers for Architecture, Electronics, Electrical and Agricultural Engineering. According to Dr. Rhodora V. Nuestro, CEIT dean, the event will be an annual activity to serve as a “Pahiyang” celebration to recognize the achievements of licensure exam passers. (KMACrystal)

DAFE implements departmentalization of exams

The Department of Agricultural and Food Engineering (DAFE), headed by Dr. Leyma L. Cero, started to implement the departmentalization of examinations for all mathematics subjects offered by the department during the preliminary examination on July 23, 24 and 28, 2014. All students taking a particular mathematics subject were arranged alphabetically and clustered into 50 students per room. To facilitate hundreds of students taking similar exam at the same time, rooms from DIET and Engineering Science buildings were used. 

This initiative was conducted to ensure that students are taking similar lectures and exams on their respective subject. It also aims to measure the performance of the students in general and avoid the possibility of cheating incident. 

Michael P. Enriquez, John Carlo Espineli, Den Whilrex R. Garcia (all ECE 3-1) and Roxcell J. Gloriani (CE 3-1) topped the exam in Differential Equations with a score of 98%. Miguel Joseph Jacoba (ECE 2-1) topped the exam in Differential Calculus with a score of 99%. Moreover, Jayzen Lorenzo (Arch 1-2) and Kazelle Anne Sallegue (ECE1-1) topped the exam in Trigonometry and Algebra with scores of 88% and 100%, respectively. (JJLorenzo)

CvSU tops Agricultural Engineer Licensure Exam


Engr. Jonathan A. Flores has proven that Cavite State University (CvSU) once again can excel alongside with great universities in the Philippines in the field of Agricultural Engineering. Engr. Flores was able to garner the first place in the 2014 Licensure Examination for Agricultural Engineers on July 1-2, 2014 with a rating of 86.33%. The examination was administered by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) and CvSU was able to obtain a passing rate of 75%. 

Aside from Engr. Flores, other new registered professional agricultural engineers are: Engrs. Geejay Bartolome, Mabelleona Cruzado, Riem del Rosario, Jamica Marie de Vera, Aira Mae Fernandez, Claudine May Gomez, Leahlyn Rodil, Jan Michael Simora, Al Eugene Torres, Madel Vidallon, and Reynaldo Villanueva, Jr.

The PRC also announced that a total of 313 out of 623 examinees passed the said exam which translates into a national passing rate of 50.24%. The examination was held in the cities of Manila, Baguio and Davao. 

Alumni from the Department of Agricultural and Food Engineering (DAFE) were able to be placers in the previous licensure exams, however, Engr. Jonathan Flores is the first to obtain the top place in the history of CvSU in this field. (JCMObice)

DAFE welcomes new faculty

As Cavite State University (CvSU) starts the new academic year, the Department of Agricultural and Food Engineering (DAFE) welcomes its four new faculty members, namely: Engrs. Kelvin Michael A. Crystal and Richelle Mae D. Mendoza, Mr. Junelle Christian M. Obice, and Mr. Melmar B. Piedad.

Engr. Crystal is a licensed agricultural engineer and graduated cum laude from CvSU in 2012. Previously, he worked as an agricultural engineer in one of the staff bureaus of the Department of Agriculture from 2012 to 2014. Engr. Mendoza, also a licensed agricultural engineer, graduated cum laude from Mindanao State University (MSU) - General Santos City in 2010. She worked as project engineer and senior project engineer in an international company from 2011 to 2013 and 2013 to 2014, respectively. Meanwhile, Mr. Obice is an industrial engineering graduate from CvSU in 2014. During his college days, he was affiliated in numerous academic organizations and organized several college- and university-wide events and activities. Lastly, Mr. Piedad is an alumnus of University of the Philippines-Diliman. He finished BS in Civil Engineering in April 2014 and plans to take the Licensure Examination for Civil Engineers in December 2014.

Bartolome, finalist for CvSU outstanding student of the year

Gee Jay C. Bartolome, fifth year agricultural engineering student, was one of the six finalists in the Search for the Most Outstanding Student of the Year of Cavite State University (CvSU) for SY 2013-2014. Bartolome, who was accompanied by his mother, received a certificate of recognition during the University Foundation Day celebration on February 10, 2014 at the CvSU Quadrangle. 

Moreover, Jewel S. Sanchez, fifth year industrial engineering student was named as the Most Outstanding Student of the Year. He received a plaque of recognition and cash prize of PhP 5,000.

CvSU bags 1st runner-up in PAEStigan IV

The Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Engineering (BSAE) students of Cavite State University (CvSU) once again proved their knowledge on the Philippine Agricultural Engineering Standards (PAES) by winning the first runner-up in the PAES State Colleges and Universities National Quiz Contest (PAEStigan IV) on January 25, 2014 at the University of the Philippines Los Baños, Laguna. In the previous PAEStigan quiz contests, CvSU consistently placed in the top three.

Gee Jay Bartolome, Jonathan Flores and Sarah Salgado composed the CvSU Team. They received a trophy, certificate and PhP 30,000 cash prize. Dr. Leyma L. Cero accompanied the CvSU delegates which was the biggest delegation during the event.

 BSAE  students  from Central  Bicol State University of Agriculture (CBSUA)  and Cagayan State University (CSU) emerged as the champion and second runner-up and they received trophies, certificates and cash prizes amounting to PhP 50,000 and PhP 20,000, respectively. The event was participated in by 17 SUCs nationwide.

The Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities in the Philippines (AACCUP) evaluated four undergraduate degree programs of Cavite State University during the accreditation survey visit on December 9, 2013 at the Lasap Hall, Administration Building. The programs that qualified for Level 3, Phase 2 surveys from the College of Engineering and Information Technology were Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Engineering (BSAE) and Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering (BSCE).

Dr. Leyma L. Cero, chair of the Department of Agricultural and Food Engineering (DAFE) and Engr. Renato B. Cubilla, senior faculty member of the Department of Civil Engineering (DCE) presented the narrative profile of the two programs, respectively. A simultaneous question and answer portion followed after the presentations to clarify the issues of concerns of the evaluators. The activity was graced by the University key officials, deans, directors, faculty members of the programs under survey, and BSAE and BSCE students.

Dr. Manuel T. Corpus (Overall Coordinator), Dr. Edwin P. Ramos (Team Leader - BSAE) and Engr. Nestor C. Competente (Team Leader – BSCE) composed the panel of evaluators for the two programs.

CvSU joins 17th PSAE-PPG Annual Luzon Convention

Twenty-eight (28) BSAE students composed the delegation of the Philippine Society of Agricultural Engineers Pre-Professional Group (PSAE-PPG) CvSU Chapter to the 17th PSAE-PPG Annual Luzon Convention on December 5 - 7, 2013 at Pangasinan State University - Sta. Maria Campus. The event's theme was "Enhancing AE Profession for Global Competitiveness” and it was participated in by 352 BSAE students from 16 SUCs in Luzon.

The three-day event included a symposium on Farm Mechanization and Renewable Energy, Soil and Water Management, and Aquaculture with resource speakers from PhilMech, BFAR and CLSU-AREC, respectively. Several competitions also highlighted the event wherein Jonathan Flores bagged second place in AutoCAD challenge while Gee Jay Bartolome and Sarah Salgado placed fourth and ninth in the AE Quiz Bee, respectively.

Michael Jordel Matundan, Leahlyn Rodil, Al Owen Ferrera, Jonilou Bautista and Mary Joy David participated in the AE Adventure Race; Janjan Aguilar for Tractor Parts Identification; Lloyd Tadifa for Tractor Hitching and Driving; and Claudine May Gomez for AE Quiz Bee. Gee Jay Bartolome and Jessica-Ann Morales represented the CvSU delegation in the Mr. and Ms. PSAE 2013.

Moreover, PSAE-PPG CvSU won the bidding and election for the next presidency of PSAE-PPG Luzon Chapter with Minette Mojica making CvSU the next host university for the 18th annual convention in December 2014. The event was concluded with an educational tour to a squash noodle factory in Sta. Maria, Pangasinan and Balungao Hilltop Adventure Park.  (Gee Jay Bartolome)

Dr. Camilo A. Polinga, one of the full-fledged professors of the Department of Agricultural and Food Engineering (DAFE), received the ASEAN Engineer title from the ASEAN Federation of Engineering Organizations (AFEO) Governing Board on November 10, 2013.

Currently,  Dr. Polinga  is the dean of CvSU Rosario Campus and so far, the first and only ASEAN Engineer from Cavite State University (CvSU).
